Twenty-Ten

The New Year is finally upon us and with that, the retail madness is quickly starting to die down. F.Y.E., job-wise, isn’t too bad, but I really want/need a full-time job. This small area is making me realize that unless I find something soon, I’m going to have to move. It’s unfortunate, but there’s just nothing here in Massena, NY and for some unknown reason, this town and its officials don’t seem to want to try and bring in new, big business. Instead, they cater to the elderly and local business…

So I’m still job hunting, just so it’s known On the video game front, I traded a few games on Goozex and got a few in return. inFAMOUS was sent out, as was Ski-Doo Snowmobile Challenge and 28 Days Later on Blu-ray. Quick note, NEVER buy 28 Days Later on Blu-ray, it looks like absolute shit. Seriously, the original source was shot on a handycam essentially so naturally it isn’t going to stretch well. Thankfully Tropic Thunder (Blu-ray) should be coming in the mail soon so I’m looking forward to that. I got Madden 10 in recently, a few days ago actually, and so far I’m NOT impressed. I threw that up on my offers list on Goozex last night. I’ll stick with Blitz: The League II on my 360 for now. For now, I’ll probably sit back and enjoy some Cabela’s Outdoor Adventures on my PS3 and wait for some games to pop up on my want list on Goozex.

Other possible newsworthy notes; I got Callan to join Twitter. We canceled our cable from Time Warner which will save us about $70 a month (score!). Callan and I are driving to Chicago in February to see Utada live at the House of Blues, should be a fun drive (/sarcasm). That’s about it I think. I hope everyones’ New Year and Christmas went well and here’s to a better 2010.

December Update

It’s been a while since I last posted. My bad. Resigning from Home Depot and starting at F.Y.E. took up most of my time about a month ago, and not I’m working a lot of closings so basically I eat, sleep, play games, and work (not necessarily in that order). Speaking of games, I tried Borderlands and Dragon Age: Origins…both were disappointing, Borderlands especially. It just felt so empty…I just couldn’t get into the game. I know it’s a hack n’ slasher but if I want that, I’ll just install Diablo II and have some fun. Dragon Age: Origins wasn’t quite as disappointing, but after playing Demon’s Souls, DA:O was VERY easy. No real challenge…very bland textures…and the story just didn’t really pull me in.

Such is life (for a gamer). I’ve been enjoying (and loathing) Modern Warfare 2 for the last few weeks. I’m closing in on level 70 (Prestige). Hopefully they re-balance the game a bit more and tweak a few things, otherwise the game, while frustrating, can be quite a bit of fun. I also dabbled in a bit of inFAMOUS and Uncharted 2 recently. Both fun games, though Uncharted 2 has definitely lived up to the hype. Good story, great humor, and it looks fucking fantastic! Other than that, I’ve been trying to slowly build up my Blu-ray collection and I’ve been plugging away at finishing up my Christmas shopping. I think I’m all set, though I might pick up a few small things, but we’ll see. Looking forward to Christmas this year, and Callan’s been in an unusually cheerful/Christmas-y mood, it’s nice

Quick update

Today I’m waiting (fingers crossed and all) for a call back on a new job. It’s still part-time, but with better hours, no back-breaking (literally) lifting, and it’s a manager training position (they call it 3rd Key/Super Associate). So yeah, waiting to see if I get this job sucks, naturally, but I think this would be perfect for me. I have the Bachelor’s Degree in Business, and I have experience (my last year and a half was basically geared towards starting and running businesses), I just don’t have retail experience, which for some unknown reason people feel is necessary..

Anyway, the great thing about possibly getting this job, aside from the management training, is I could very-well likely be home around 10PM at night instead of 12:15 in the morning 9shortly after midnight). It’ll be nice to still meet up with friends for a couple hours after work, and staying up until 4 or 5AM (like this morning) watching How I Met Your Mother…while fun, will thankfully be reigned in to 1-2AM

Speaking about staying up late watching How I Met Your Mother, great show. AMAZING show! Just as funny as Psych (January can’t come quick enough), but funny for completely different reasons. We finished up season 4 this morning at about 4 and watched the first episode of season 5, the current season. With the episodes only 22 minutes long (half hour airtime), we were able to fit A LOT more episodes in compared to the 43 minute long Psych (1 hour airtime). So somehow we breezed through the first 4 seasons of HIMYM in roughly a week and a half Yeah, awesome.

Last but not least, I’m sure everyone has heard about Modern Warfare 2 by now and it’s huge launch. I grabbed the Hardened Edition for the PS3 (ebay’d the CoD Classic code for about $17.50 after fees). $75 shipped (release day shipping) from Amazon.com, plus the $20 gift card promotion they were offering…so $75 – 20 = $55 – $17.50 = $37.50 shipped. Not bad for the Hardened Edition (steelbook case). Overall, fun game, a bit frustrating early on but if you get with a decent group of guys and gals, it can be fun. The invite system is a joke but hopefully that will be fixed soon. So glad I don’t have to play SOCOM: Confrontation anymore…speaking of which, if anyone wants my copy, $10 shipped.

James Roday as Nathan Drake?

While I have yet to buy Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (financial issues, aka, I’m broke), I have had the opportunity to watch this series on USA Network called Psych.  Callan (my girlfriend) and I polished off the first 3 seasons over the last two weeks and so far I am thoroughly impressed.  James Roday stars as Shawn Spencer, lead Psychic Detective for the Santa Barbara Police Department.  If anyone reading this has seen the show, you no doubt know that James Roday can be quite the comedian.  His fast-paced, witty 80′s references fit him perfectly.  While slightly shorter than the Uncharted character Nathan Drake, I think James Roday would be perfect for the role given Roday buffs up just a little bit.  His attitude, personality, and humor fit the role to a tee and paired up with a great supporting cast, I think he would be ideal for the rumored Uncharted movie.  But don’t take my word for it…

Psych!

We (Callan and I) started watching Psych the TV show on USA and so far, this show is delivering plenty of laughs (in a good way).  The characters are funny and everything just seems to click.  We’re up to season 3 (almost done actually) and can’t wait to start season 4.  We may finally have a show that’s still running that we can look forward to watching

Was fucking awesome!  I wasn’t really sure what to expect other than something really cheesy but I came out of the movie totally entertained.  So yeah, go see Zombieland, you won’t be disappointed.*

*Note: unless you hate swearing, blood, gore, Woody Harrelson, zombies, etc.

I said I’d have pictures up “soon” but I’ve honestly been having so much fun with my PS3 Slim that I never get around to taking the pictures, etc.  I’ll try to work on that this weekend.  I beat Uncharted: Drakes Fortune last week.  Fun game, though the waves of enemies was frustrating at times.  Overall, 8.9/10.  Great game.  I’ve been playing Burnout Paradise too, just got my ‘Burnout’ license yesterday actually.  I believe I’m 1 trophy away from getting the Platinum trophy, unfortunately, I need the EyeToy or 360 Vision Camera to get the mugshot trophy…will have to wait to get that.  Fun game though.

I just traded in some games at GameStop last week.  I have $115.xx in store credit thanks to their 4/$20 trade-in deal.  Hoping they have a Buy 2, Get 1 free sale soon.  I’m eying inFAMOUS, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, and a 3rd game that I’m not sure about yet.  Perhaps Demon’s Souls, or Batman: Arkham Asylum, or Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2.  Who knows.  Looking forward to getting some new games though.

Here’s hoping I get a callback soon for a job I applied for.  Really getting tired of working at The Home Depot.  So many lazy employees, so many wasted or pointless markdowns, it’s insane the store turns a profit.  But whatevs
