Upgrading to a Samsung Captivate

It’s going to be sexy. Scratch that, it IS sexy. I’ve had the opportunity to play with it a few times and I can’t wait. I have a crappy Pantech Matrix (non-Pro) and I hate it. It’s bulky, with a small screen, horrible keyboard, and overall it just isn’t fun to use. It gets me by and has for the last year and a half, but I’m ready to join the big boys and girls and get a smartphone.

I should be getting my Captivate September 4th, so expect more impressions then

A few new games…

So I recently too advantage of the GameStop summer sale, grabbing Puzzle Quest 2 for the Nintendo DS and Darksiders, Just Cause 2, and 2010 FIFA World Cup. All for the PlayStation 3. So far I’ve tried all but Just Cause 2 and they, so far, seem fun. Darksiders I’m not all that impressed with. It’s repetitive but doesn’t feel gratifying when killing numerous enemies. There’s just something missing with the ‘cool’ factor, perhaps I should just get God of War 3 and call it a day. On another note, I picked up Heavenly Sword and was EXTREMELY disappointed with that. The game *might* have been fun, if it weren’t for the sequences where you had to control another character and could only use the SIXAXIS to aim their weapon. Bad choice, horribly implemented.

2010 FIFA World Cup has been fun so far. I was playing as Italy and was knocked out of the first round in almost the same fashion as real life. 1 loss, 2 draws. Really looking forward to playing this when I have some time off from work. Same goes with Just Cause 2. After the disappointment that is Crackdown 2, I’m hoping this makes up for it and considering there’s a grappling gun/hook thing, I think it will

HTC Aria Android Phone (AT&T) – I Want One!

If you have AT&T, then you no doubt have been looking forward to ANY announcement indicating new Android phones are coming to the service. I refuse to be one of Apples’ minions, therefore no iPhone for me. I will however support Google’s Android platform. So it was a great relief when AT&T announced the HTC Aria, their first full-fledged Android phone. It’s available now, too, though the price is too high for the specs the phone has compared to, say, the iPhone. For $129.99 I would expect to get A LOT more out of the Aria compared to the $199.99 the new iPhone 4 costs.

Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately) I can’t upgrade until September 4th. It sucks because I want the Aria NOW, but it allows me to 1. wait for and see if anything else is announced between now and then, and 2. I know the phone will be cheaper when I go to upgrade. The Aria has already been confirmed to be getting Android 2.2 (Froyo) just like the Nexus One and other Android phones. 2.2 is said to yield a HUGE increase in performance and the Aria already runs fairly fast so it should be a treat once I get it.

Just a quick announcement that we’ve added a new author over at WhenSpamAttacks.com. I’m sure many of you will recognize him from over at roughtoiletpaper.com. Yes, THAT Basjohn has joined the team. That is all.

Almost half way through the year…

I can’t believe we’re already into June. Anime North came and went. We had fun. Call posted a wrap-up/review if anyone is interested. We bought a good amount of manga, a couple plushies, and a giant Cthulhu figure that I’m looking forward to displaying…once we have somewhere to put it.

Gaming news; 1 I launched WhenSpamAttacks on June 1st. Not a bad flow of visitors so far. We’re still in soft-launch mode so as we put out more content on a regular basis, things should pick up even more. I’ve reviewed Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Alan Wake so far…completely different games with completely different reviews.

Other than that, I’ll try and post here a bit more. I should be able to use this as a personal blog now instead of a catch-all. We’ll see
